WebI had my port placed a few weeks before I started chemo and had it removed 4 months after I finished radiation. So I had it in for just over a year. My oncologist recommended to wait a bit for the skin to heal after rads before I have it removed. I was glad, because as you mentioned, going to the cancer center for flushes was very difficult.
